Overview

About me

Currently in my Second Year of study, I am a Mathematics PhD student (funded by EPSRC) based within the climate systems research group. My supervisory team includes Prof. David B. Stephenson, Dr Ben Youngman and Dr Matthew Priestley.

Originally from Norfolk, I moved to Exeter in 2017 to complete an integrated Masters in Mathematics. After graduating in 2021 my Masters Research project titled  "The distribution of aggregate storm risk in a changing climate" led me to start my PhD here at Exeter.

My work

My area of expertise is statistics, particularly random sums and their applications. My PhD project, New approaches for understanding climate change trends and variability in aggregate weather extremes, aims to understand the risks Europe faces from windstorms as the Earth's climate changes. The project is concerned with non-stationary random sums and will also explore extreme value theory.

My PhD focuses on "aggregate risk", the cumulative insured losses in a season. My Master's project (supervised by Prof. David B. Stephenson) highlighted links between storm clustering and the correlation between aggregate risk and storm counts. A greater understanding of how links like this may change in the future, including trends and the variabliity is vital if we want to mitigate the hazards created by living in the anthropocene.
