Research Fellow

 S.E.Chadburn@exeter.ac.uk

Overview

Sarah holds a NERC Independent Research Fellowship at the University of Exeter, and also spends some of her time at the Met Office and has worked in Bergen, Norway. She develops the UK's leading land surface model (JULES), which forms the land part of the Met Office climate models. She specialises in Arctic permafrost and carbon dynamics. The aim of her fellowship is to determine the future of carbon stocks in the Arctic, which has major implications for global climate change, using interdisciplinary approaches including deterministic and statistical modelling, data analysis, in-situ observations and incorporating expertise from project partners in ecology, hydrology, and biogeochemical science. Sarah is part of the JULES science committee as module leader for soil biogeochemistry.

Sarah has previously been employed on the COUP and PAGE21 projects, which were both great opportunities to meet other scientists, visit the Arctic, and were good fun to be involved in. She obtained her PhD from Durham University in 2013, where she studied theoretical cosmology.
