Carolina joined the Climate System Group in September 2017 as a Software Engineer, providing support to JULES (Joint UK Land Environment Simulator) users at the University of Exeter. She is based on the level 8 in Laver building of Streatham Campus.

At her previous appointments, Carolina worked as a Statistics Tutor at the University of Exeter (Business School) and at the Bath Spa University (Writing and Learning Centre) delivering tutorials and workshops, and providing general Maths support to students. During 2014 to 2015 she worked at the National Observatory of Mexico as a Support Astronomer, interacting both with professional astronomers and technicians; helping a large number of differently oriented researchers with their observations, and coordinating the technicians to maintain the telescopes and equipment in full working order every night.

From 2011 to 2014 she worked as a post-doctorate at the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia located in Granada, Spain. There, she investigated the star formation processes by observing young stellar objects in the optical wavelength range; and the material around evolved stars, modelling their density and temperature in order to fit their spectral energy distribution.

In 2009, Carolina completed a PhD at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), investigating the brightness and polarisation variability of young stellar objects by observing them in the optical wavelength range. As part of her academic background she obtained a Master of Science in Astronomy in 2004 at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM); and a Degree in Physics and Maths at the University of Michoacan (UMSNH).

She also has experience as a lecturer in several institutions in Mexico including Modern Physics at the University of Michoacan; Statistics, Probability, Arithmetic and Algebra at the Indigenous Intercultural University of Michoacan; Differential and Integral Calculus, Lineal Algebra at the Technological Institute of Ciudad Hidalgo.
