Profile
Dr Chen Wang
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
I am a postdoc in the Math Department. My research project is waves, instabilities and mean flows in MHD systems, in collaboration with Professor Andrew Gilbert and Dr. Joanne Mason. I have studied the instability of MHD shallow-water system, and the MHD instability on a sphere. I'm currently studying the effect of magnetic field on the zonostrophic instabilty, which is responsible for the generation of zonal jets on planets.
I did my PhD in the University of British Columbia, Canada under the guidance of Professor Neil Balmforth. I studied baroclinic critical layers in stratified shear flows, which are closely related to strato-rotational instability and zombie vortices.
This is my CV.
