Ben Fitkov-Norris

My research focuses on pathways to achieving the ambitious "30x30" target, which aims to conserve 30% of land and sea by 2030. Specifically, I explore alternative approaches beyond traditional protected areas, focusing on Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs). My work includes investigating the role of offshore wind farms in providing de facto conservation by limiting fishing activity, as well as the contribution of shipwrecks to marine conservation. Beyond research, I am involved in academic outreach, public engagement and teaching, having organised the Global Systems Institute lecture series and contributed to teaching as a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant across multiple modules.
