Dr Oscar Rodriguez De Rivera Ortega
Lecturer
Mathematics and Statistics
I am Statistical Ecologist working as a Lecturer in Statistics at the University of Exeter. My research involves the deveopment and use of complex spatio‐temporal statistical models, geographic information systems (GIS), and working collaboratively in a multi‐disciplinary environment.
My research interests include:
- Spatial and spatio temporal models applied to species distribution.
- Understanding effects and causality of environmental disturbances such as forest fires, pests, pollutants and climate change.
- Applications of statistics in environmental science and conservation.
PhD and Research Opportunities
I welcome enquiries from prospective PhD students interested in applying quantitative and spatial approaches to ecological and environmental challenges.
Current research interests include:
- Spatial and spatio-temporal modelling in ecology
- Biodiversity assessment and monitoring
- Species distributions and habitat change
- Landscape ecology and land-use impacts
- Environmental hazards and ecosystem resilience
- Statistical methods for ecological field data and sampling design
I am particularly interested in supervising students who wish to develop interdisciplinary projects linking quantitative methods with real environmental or conservation questions. Applicants from backgrounds including statistics, mathematics, ecology, environmental science, geography, physics, or data science are encouraged to apply.
I welcome contact from self-funded students and candidates applying for external scholarships. If you are considering a PhD and would like to discuss potential ideas or funding opportunities, please feel free to get in touch informally.
I am happy to discuss project ideas at an early stage, including support in developing PhD proposals and fellowship applications.
