Mathematics has always fascinated Viv and truly comes alive for her particularly in its applications within the Machine Learning field. She is a Physics and Computer Science double honours Graduate with industry experience from Financial Services and Technology sectors in Analyst, Product Manager, Application developer, Business Development and Technical Sales roles. She is currently pursuing career interests in research and academia.
Her broad skill set and adaptability is reflected by her diverse experience and her passion for research has ultimately led her back to academia. Her Master’s thesis explored the use of Neural Networks for post-processing weather forecasts, and she is now expanding her interest in statistics and data science through her PhD project, which aims to integrate deep learning methods with statistical spatiotemporal models.
Outside her research and academic pursuits, Viv is actively engaged with the Exeter Student Ambassadors Scheme through which she supports student recruitment and widening participation activities. Viv enjoys writing and has co-authored and published computer science textbooks for primary and secondary schools. She is an avid runner and yoga practitioner, finding balance and inspiration through her active lifestyle.
