Mr Tyler Leicht (He/him)

I am a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics working with Dr. Jennifer Catto on NERC project CLIM-CITI (Climate Change Impact on Midlatitude Cyclone Intensity, Tracks, and Impacts). I use a method called potential vorticity inversion to catoegorize midlatitude wintertime cyclones in the North Atlantic and to understand how each cyclone class strengthens and develops. This method is applied to reanalysis data as well as climate model output for historic and future scenarios to understand how cyclone development may differ under anthropogenic climate change.

I received my Ph.D. from the University of Albany in July of 2025 working with Dr. Lance Bosart. My research focused on hemisphere-scale persistent flow regimes, understanding the dynamics for the regime formation, and how these regimes impacted surface weather extremes. I also worked on other side projects on analyzing real time long-duration extreme weather events.
