Dr Houry Melkonian

Mathematics and Statistics
Houry Melkonian is a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics and the Director of the Faculty’s ‘with Foundation Year’ suite of undergraduate programmes. She joined the University of Exeter in July 2018 as a Lecturer in Mathematics.
Houry has an extensive experience in teaching, curriculum development and assessment in mathematics at college and university levels at various higher education institutes in Scotland, England and abroad for about 15 years. She has achieved several recognitions and awards in teaching excellence and outstanding student experience. Core to her academic practice is her commitment to promote equal opportunities and improve student experience through practical approaches to inclusion in areas such as curriculum, approaches to teaching, pastoral support, maths skills, and research-based interventions. She worked on multiple initiatives in relation to education policy and practice in the university, and the pre-university sectors (particularly in mathematics), including work as an assessor and subject expert for Access to HE Diplomas, Society of Natural Sciences and other external bodies.
