Chanon Olley
Postgraduate Researcher
Mathematics and Statistics
Chanon is a PhD researcher whose interests lie in the application of machine learning to environmental problems. Specifically, his project is focussed on the application of remote sensing and machine learning for the mapping of seabed habitats in UK waters. This project is in partnership with the Devon Wildlife Trust and aims to support the Wildlife Trusts in combatting widespread decline of important habitats vital for the marine ecosystem.
Chanon's prior education consists of a master's in mathematics at the University of Warwick. This degree provided training in pure and applied mathematics, including machine learning, physics and mathematical biology. His interests in tackling environmental problems in the face of a worrying future for planet and people led him to pursue a PhD within the Centre of Doctoral Training in Environmental Intelligence (EICDT).
