Ms Charlotte (Charlie) Alexander (she/her)

Postdoctoral Research Associate
Mathematics and Statistics

Charlie joined the Univeristy of Exeter in April 2025, supervised by Fiona O'Connor, as part of the Solar Radiation Modification Research Group led by Jim Haywood. Her work involves close collaboration with the Met Office, exploring the role of climate interventions in mitigation.  Her work explores different climate interventions which aim to keep to global warming to 1.5°C. These include combined carbon dioxide removal, methane removal and stratospheric aerosol injection interventions. Her research will focus on the effects of these mitigations on the global climate, through modelling with UKESM, as well as atmospheric composistion such as aerosol effects and chemistry due to these interventions.

Having completed her DPhil in Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics at Oxford in 2025 focused on the atmosphere of Jupiter, her intererest in atmospheres has spanned multiple planets and a range of focuses including cloud formation, auroral influences and now anthropogenic impacts in a rapidly changing climate.

Across these research topics the interest in modelling the atmosphere has led to her developing a breadth of model applications. Curently with coupled Earth system models such as UKESM with additional reserach with FAIR a simple climate model. Her previous work has also invovled radiative transfer modelling.
