Dr. Bidyut Bikash Goswami is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Climate Systems Research Group at the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy.
Dr. Goswami’s research focuses on understanding how physical processes in the atmosphere govern climate variability and change, with a particular emphasis on the Indian summer monsoon. His work examines multiscale interactions from local convective cloud systems to large-scale circulation patterns and their influence on monsoon rainfall. A significant contribution of Dr. Goswami’s research is improving the representation of rain-producing clouds in climate models and elucidating how cloud organization affects monsoon dynamics. His work also highlights the role of land-ocean contrasts as a defining feature of monsoon systems.
At the University of Exeter, Dr. Goswami is investigating how monsoons respond to idealized stratospheric aerosol forcing, which reduces incoming solar radiation, to improve understanding of potential climate interventions (Stratospheric Aerosol Intervention).
