MSc Applied Data Science and Statistics (ADSS) - Projects

ADSS students receive training in statistics, machine learning, R and Python, with a strong focus on application to real-life datasets and problems.  They also do modules focusing on communication, presentation, ethics and governance.  Project topics can cover the full spectrum from very technical to very applied and can involve all aspects of applied data science and statistics including data collection and cleaning, modelling, ethical considerations, and analysis. This is an excellent opportunity to explore a new idea or perform an extended analysis of your research data.  Many of our projects from last year have formed the basis of subsequent publications.

Call for project ideas for the MSc in Applied Data Science and Statistics students.

We have two cohorts this year, the first have made their projects choices and are working on their projects over the summer, May – August.

We also have a second cohort, who will make their choices in July and will work on their projects during from September to December. So, if you missed the earlier call for projects, there is still time for our second cohort of students.

For those supervisors who would find it useful, the ADSS Team can provide technical/data science support and joint-supervision throughout the project periods.

A list of the projects completed by ADSS students last year can be viewed in our student projects 2019/20

If you are interested in offering a project, please complete the form below. If possible please include the skills you think a student will require to do the project and any other information you think is relevant.

For autumn projects, please let us know by 23 July 2021.

I had a fantastic experience on the ADSS MSc course. The teachings and the support from lecturers were excellent. I often look back on the slides, labs and my notes for revision. I also love that there was a heavy statistics component which is highly favoured by employers. This is the perfect course for anyone who is interested in Data Science but doesn't have a strong maths/statistics/programming background.
