Overview

I am a third year PhD student interested in time-stepping schemes for weather and climate prediction, specifically time-stepping schemes that would allow parallel-in-time integration. The advent of massively parallel supercomputers means that it will soon become necessary to take time steps in parallel in order to obtain numerical solutions to the equations that govern the behaviour of the atmosphere. I am working on developing test cases for time-stepping schemes in a moist shallow water model, which include numerics that present more of a challenge to time-stepping schemes than test cases in the usual shallow water model.

I graduated from the University of Limerick in the summer of 2020 with a BSc in Mathematics and Physics.

I am part of the NERC GW4+ Doctoral Training Partnership. My supervisors are Dr Jemma Shipton and Prof Beth Wingate in Exeter, and Dr Ben Shipway at the Met Office.
